“No one is actually dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away.”
– Terry Pratchett
Back in October, we held a book sale fundraiser, which allowed us to raise over $500 for the International Skeletal Dysplasia Registry and donate over $650 of children’s books to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, all in Elliott’s memory.
Brian designed a stamp for the books that we got to choose, which we placed on the back of each book. Every family who reads one of our books will know that that book is there because of a baby named Elliott Rose. We were able to go to Mott this week to donate the books, which will be dispersed on the 11th floor, where many children wait for extended periods of time, healing from open heart surgery and other procedures.
“One of my very favorite memories is of the book cart coming to [our] room and us picking out a new book to read. It’s truly a very special thing that you guys are doing, and trust me… It means SO much to these kids and families.”
– A parent of a C.S. Mott patient
Being able to donate the books this week was great timing. A day or two before we donated the books, we received a letter in the mail from the ISDR, stating that they had received the $532 in funds we were able to donate because of the book sale. This money will be used for skeletal dysplasia research, therapies, and possible treatments. Seeing Elliott’s name on such an important piece of mail was really special for us. Ellie wasn’t here for very long, but we promised her that we would make sure her name would never be forgotten. Being able to carry out acts of charity in her honor is our way of parenting her and honoring her life’s story. We’re quite proud of our little Ellie, and we like to think that she is proud of us and all of you for continuing to keep her name alive.
If you weren’t able to participate in the book sale, but still want to be a part of the fundraising, click here to make a tax-deductible donation to the ISDR in Elliott’s memory. Every single dollar counts for this research project. Thank you again to everyone who participated!
Elliott will continue to leave her stamp! ❤️🌹
